Écorce flottante (floating bark) is a series of monotypes [1-14] made with barks of eukalyptus trees from Labège near Toulouse (France).
In the periphery of Toulouse the small village of Labège was transformed radically mainly after the 1990s due to an urban development plan including the construction of a shopping mall, small industry, offices, housing, cultural venues and an artificial lake. The construction of a new metro line and the transformation from industrial to service oriented industries recently led to demolition and reconstruction of buildings. On the temporary empty lands Eucalyptus trees started to spread as a common local neophyte that originates from Australia. Monotypes of the bark (“écorce” in French) of eucalyptus trees serve as an imprint of the changing landscape.
