The performance Notausklang (mixture of the german words for emergency exit and the finale of a classical music peace) is part of the project Encounter with a sleeping Giant by the M.F.A. Public Art and New artistic Strategies of Bauhaus- Universität Weimar developed in March 2021 as a cooperation with the city of Leipzig. The work uses the former emergency exit in a basement sauna – an unexpected space of intimacy, in the building of the former ministry for state security of the socialist GDR, that intended to dissolve intimacy. In the years after the peaceful revolution, the sauna became a gay venue for a few years. With the help of drumsticks and the body, the exploration of the space creates a narrative of noisy sounds and fragile movements that refer to the ambivalent stories of the site.
Realised in the framework of "Bauhaus goes Leipzig" under the direction of Danica Dakic, Ina Weise and Raul Walch. This project was commissioned by the Bundesministerium des Innern in the framework of the Nationale Projekte des Städtebaus.
